Day 7 Part 2: Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park

We got to Black Canyon around 2 p.m., and spent a total of about 2 1/2 hours. I'll try to let the pictures explain, but they don't do the size justice. Massive. Over a thousand feet deep, 1250 feet wide at it's narrowest point. STEEP! We did the Visitors Center and the South Rim drive, which has 12 overlooks, some beside the road, some several hundred yards away. Giant granitic cliffs, lots of mineral-filled fissures...see for yourself. That's Rita and a juniper tree to start.

Really pretty, really impressive. Black Canyon because of how dark it is at the bottom, though the rocks are mostly dark, as well (see the white veins).
